The San Luis Valley Regional Youth
Corps Wood Shop Program is for youth ages 16-19. Crew members get the
opportunity to gain vocational education, life skills and financial
management skills while working toward completion of their education. The wood shop crews will learn
important social skills that can provide a more productive and pleasant work
environment. These skills will stay with the crew members for years to come. The goals of the SLVRYC Wood Shop
are: 1) To
employ youth that are not in school with a paid vocational training. 2) To
guide youth through the GED process and encourage continuing education. 3) To
provide a quality product for customers that will provide program expenses. The wood shop crew builds waterfowl
nesting boxes and cremation urns for humans and pets. Work days are Monday
through Friday with part of the day being spent in a computer lab working on
GED education. |
